Many people in the United States work out hard to burn calories while 870 million people across the globe don’t have enough to eat. Zumba™ Fitness decided to help charities who feed the hungry by “donating” calories expended in their classes to Feeding America or to the United Nations World Food Program.
Because it’s hard to capture a calorie, they came up with the “The Great Calorie Drive” and calculated the amount of calories burned in a typical workout (750) and translated that into $0.14 which they will donate for each workout registered in the month of June with their special app.
Curves in Folsom has an energetic group working out to help others. Instructors Karen Mackey and Juliet Scheuer have been encouraging frontrunners Susan Johnson, Peggy Glazier, Cindy Fry, and Precilla Schrodder who had donated the most calories by mid June. Other regular class attendees Cindy Fry, Carol Hindmarsh, Connie Engle, Mary Meden, Liz Waterman, Kathy Fox, Lisa Welch, Marrissa Vicors, Teresa Veillette, Nancy Gardner, Leslie Marxen, Diane Ajax, Kathy Fox, and Kathy Baccioco are also happily donating their unwanted calories to those in need.
