Folsom Christmas Tree Lighting – Folsom, CA
Date: December 2, 2011
Location: Sutter Street
On the evening of December 2nd, over 5,000 people came out to celebrate the holiday season and share the joy of Folsom’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Folsom Historic District and the Folsom Chamber of Commerce presented and sponsored the event, which filled Sutter Street with spectators, entertainers, vendors, and holiday cheer. Stephanie Rodgers, director of the Folsom Historic Association said, “The goal of the event was to feature the revitalization of Sutter Street with the spirit of the holidays.”
Volunteers from the Chamber helped decorate a stage on which various groups including the Folsom Jazz Choir, the Sutter Street Theater, and students from the Phoenix School performed for the crowd. Guests enjoyed various activities, including horse-drawn carriage rides, face painting, photos with Santa, and complimentary hot chocolate and cookies. Media journalist, Dave Bender, led the audience in an official count-down to the lighting of the tree, topping off a wonderful evening of community bonding, tradition, and even snow.
