16th Annual Folsom Crab Feed – Folsom, CA
Date: November 18, 2011
Location: Folsom Community Center
On November 18th, the Folsom Community Center hosted a Crab Feed to raise money for the Folsom High School Music Boosters.
ZOOM interviewed Mary Slusser, parent volunteer and president of the school’s music programs, who boasted that the 16th annual event was sold out for the second year in a row. Approximately 350 parents, friends and alumni were entertained with silent and live auctions, a wall of wine raffle, great food and live music, performed by their very own students. As one of the four major events of the year, the crab feed showcased the music program’s students including this year’s premier concert of the jazz band and jazz choir groups.
Folsom Mayor Andy Morin and his wife Kathy were in attendance along with Principal Kathryn Allaman to honor the students’ hard work as well as that of Curtis Gaesser, teacher of over 27 years, 25 of those at Folsom High School. Director of the music program, Gaesser is the recipient of the teacher of the year award for the second year in a row and all of his groups are recognized with high honors and awards in their competitive community. Our students are “top notch,” Slusser excitedly described.
The funds raised will be used to provide the school with instruments, uniforms, instructors and equipment. Slusser added that without the help of these kinds of fundraisers, the district would not have enough money to fund these valuable opportunities for our community’s youth.
