Percy the Fire Dog to the Rescue! – El Dorado Hills, CA
Date: August 16, 2014
Location: Talisman Collection, El Dorado Hills
Move over Superman, El Dorado County has a new hero in town – a pup called Percy! A member of the Arson and Narcotics detection unit of El Dorado County Firefighters, Percy is a 2-year-old female rescue adopted from a high-kill shelter and trained as a detection dog to assist fire investigations and rescue. Percy resides with El Dorado County Deputy Fire Captain Brandon McKay. The canine arson detection program and rescue and care of Percy are made possible through donations.
A community celebration at Talisman Collection in El Dorado Hills initiated the fundraising efforts for Percy’s training and equipment. Sponsored by Talisman Collection, Victorinox Swiss Army, and Ruffhaus Hot Dogs, the event raised $2,200 toward the goal. Hundreds of attendees enjoyed meeting Percy and munching on nibbles, while listening to the vibes of Northern California reggae and rock band, Simple Creation.
The crowd had the opportunity to check out the art and jewelry on display as well as the gallery exhibit opening of local artist Erin Kinsey’s “Artisan Moss.” Additional charities benefiting from this event include CASA El Dorado, Humane Society of America, and Little Kids Rock.
